How To Cope Up with Depression & Anxiety

June 20, 2018

I brace myself enough to do this blog post and believe me, it is one topic I avoided for years,  but I guess it's time to go out into the open.  I was having coffee this morning while contemplating over past months difficulties and begun to realize how at this point I'm still baffled how life continually going downhill. I keep thinking that perhaps it's normal for people with depression and anxiety - to often get stuck in the rut. Yes, I have depression and anxiety and it's a secret I've concealed for the past years. How long I have it? I guess long enough to consider myself a human Kratos for being able to withstand the war I wage against my demons.

I know most people will never understand the phase people with depression and anxiety goes through, but it is something that we will choose to be mum about for a good reason and that is - we do not want to inflict our pain to other people. I know everyone goes through the darkness but the only difference with us is that we often cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel and that the silver lining for us is just a metaphor.
I have to admit that I'm not the one with a solid foundation when it comes to decision making often times I do not weigh down the pros and cons. I'm the type who would plunge right down the cliff without second thoughts and this impulsiveness often cause me more than I can handle. Other times I felt like my goals receded into the dark hallway. So how do I cope up with it? I often remind myself of the following:

1. Understand that it is okay to lost lane - Even the bad days will end and eventually we will get ourselves back on the right track.
2. Travel - is not only enriching to the soul, but to the mind as well. Often travel opens new doors that will catapult us into something we never expected existed. If will inspire us and makes us understand why life is worth living.
3. You've overcome it before you can overcome it again

4. Turn your eyes to God - I have this favorite song from Church " turn your eyes upon Jesus look full in his wonderful face" In times of hardship never forget to turn to God because he is our only refuge and strength. As Snoopy said "Keep looking up that is the secret of life"
Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise - Victor Hugo
